WarehouseMap

The WarehouseMap application was developed in inspiration of resolving the problem of new staff unable to locate stock when picking orders or unloading trucks. The web application was developed using a web framework to resolve this issue. WarehouseMap is an interactive map which implements features that implement Create, Read, Update and Delete operations with the usage of different pages. The most useful feature is the search, it allows users to easily identify the location of stock by name, using a map to display the precise location of the stock on hand. This application effectively improves efficiency throughout the warehouse, reducing time to pick orders.

Key Technologies

Dynamic Interactive Warehouse Map

The warehouse map is shown across several pages in the application. This includes the home page, the Bayviewer page, the add products page and the search results page. In the Bayviewer and home page the warehouse map is used to seamlessly navigate between different locations to view the contents of specific bays. On the add products page, the warehouse map provides much-needed assistance with visualising the location of the item you are adding to the system. In the search results page, you can press the map button on the search results to provide a visual representation of the location of the item you are looking for. This is particularly useful when you are collecting multiple items at the same time. The purpose of using a map to represent bay numbers is to increase operational efficiencies and decrease human errors, having a visual representation allows you to identify where you want something whilst reducing the chance of you putting it in the wrong place.

Comprehensive Search Functionality

The search function allows you to efficiently locate stock. Search terms can include partial words and will highlight your search term in the result’s text. Each result has a Bay ID, Product description, map highlight button , a link to the corresponding bay , edit and delete options. The map highlight button makes it incredibly convenient to locate stock in the physical warehouse by use of a map. The link is useful if you want to see what items are located alongside your item in that bay. And the edit and delete button is useful if a product gets renamed or discontinued.

Strong Product Management

WarehouseMap simplifies product management with its user-friendly design. New users can easily navigate the system reducing training time and improving staff productivity. WarehouseMap has the flexibility to work in any warehouse environment, on request custom layouts of warehouses can be implemented. The visual representation of all stock allows users to see the physical location of their stock, this can assist in optimising storage taking your warehouse to its full potential.

Secure User Authentication and Authorisation

WarehouseMap allows for secure segmentation of roles and permissions. All users are required to log in with an approved account to prevent unauthorised access. Additionally, different roles can be given different permissions, for example, only managers would be able to access the access logs, and you could allow only senior team members to add delete and update products with a regular employee having only search and view permissions. This granular approach to user permissions prevents misuse and accidental damaging mistakes.

Thorough Action Logging

When a user adds, deletes, updates or searches for products an action is logged. These logs are reported to the database and can be viewed by a manager on a hidden page not available to regular staff. This data can also be used in audits to identify any discrepancies as managers can quickly identify who made what actions. This feature is particularly important to prevent misuse of these resources. For example, a scenario that could arise is where a disgruntled employee could intentionally rearrange the warehouse so that the system is not effective, this would be quickly identified, holding the perpetrator accountable and quickly reversing the changes.
